How and when did you fall in love with the game? Initially, watching players in the pool hall at the bowling lanes where my mom worked when I was young.Īccomplishments: Professional instructor since OCT 2015 I won the 8 th Army 9-ball in 2004 going undefeated in all of the qualifying events. I also studied with and learned a lot from Jerry Briesath, Tom Simpson, and Randy Goettlicher.

It was a very scary start because everything was trial and error but as the students started liking it, I did too. What do you like about instructing: After about three years of playing the game I had the opportunity to start teaching the game at the local YMCA in Milwaukee.

Most notable student: Over the years I’ve had some pretty good luck teaching the game and coaching players such as six or seven ACUI champions, several state junior champions, numerous national junior champions, many state and Midwest champions and a number world-class pro players including: Mark Wilson, Danny Harriman, Jeff Carter, Jeanette Lee “the Black Widow” and others. I spend the summer months in the Madison, Wisconsin area and when it gets cold I head for Phoenix, Arizona. Location: Being a happy snowbird I have two locations. I wouldn't say it supersedes Snookers in terms of popularity, but it's a valuable part of NE pool despite the challenge (i.e super expensive commercial rents) of Boston.Įdit: Obviously, it's my home room and I'm probably being over defensive.These PBIA Master Instructors have dedicated their professional careers to developing, growing and promoting the cue sports. It's more of a niche place that's beginning to contribute a lot more to pool, but certainly deserves a mention in the conversation of New England pool. But that means it over indexes on people who love pool which I personally like a lot more. The truth is it doesn't serve alcohol (and is small) so it'll never be at the same level as Snooker's for more casual players. Maybe Jayson Shaw's place, but I haven't been there so I can't say. I don't know of anywhere else around here that has pool + snooker + carom tables.

The 10-ball tournaments appear to be some of the bigger ones in the region from what I've seen (especially with the New England 9 Ball Series being gone).Īnd as far as table selection, there's not much competition in New England. They have a weekly Tuesday tournament which always has some strong players, and generally have 2-3 bigger tournaments per month as well. However, I think you're selling Amazin's a bit short. Boston has declined pool-wise in recent years for sure.
